Trauma

Frozen in time

Surviving a life-changing, overwhelming, and inescapable experience can create the feeling of being stuck or frozen in time.

Life continues to go on around you while everyone and everything else returns to “normal.” It was once described as standing on a carousel, constantly spinning in fear and not being able to focus on the life that was happening around them.

Often, the event replays in your mind like a movie, and it can be difficult to get through the day, make decisions, or even complete simple tasks. Being flooded by sensations and images of the event ushers in extreme feelings of guilt, confusion, anger or shock.

Avoiding people, places and things that remind you of the event seems like an effective way to escape, but this avoidance can lead to further feelings of anxiety, depression and isolation.

Sometimes, alcohol, drugs, exercise or other behaviors become the path to numb the experience, survive and escape the pain.

It’s time to re-establish a sense of safety

Through treatment, we can help you understand why you feel locked in fear and unable to move on. You will begin to re-establish a sense of safety in your body and in the world.

The connection between your mind and body will be strengthened, and tools to endure will be developed. Emotions and bodily sensations will no longer seem so out of control, and the ability to experience them safely will grow. Together, we will create a space for you to own your story, understand how it has had an impact on you, and befriend yourself again.

Then, you can begin to feel connected to life, your loved ones and live securely in the present.

Feel understood and empowered

Asking for help isn’t easy. But, it’s time to sit with someone who understands this experience and isn’t afraid to hear what you’ve kept hidden. We can help you get from where you are to where you want to be. Feeling understood lessens the confusion and sense of being overwhelmed. Through this process, you will feel empowered to change direction and reclaim the life you deserve.

Please take a moment and call us now. Let’s talk for a few minutes and determine if we are a good fit to conquer your trauma.
